One of the most common questions clients ask is, "How often should I come for sessions?" The answer depends on where you are in your journey, how much support you need, and the pace that feels right for your personal growth. Below is a general guideline to help you determine the best frequency for your therapy or life coaching sessions.
Weekly Sessions (Best for Highly Motivated Clients or Those with Severe Symptoms)
You may benefit from weekly sessions if:
✔️ You have severe anxiety, depression, trauma, or distressing emotions that interfere with daily life.
✔️ You are experiencing a crisis, major life transition, or a significant breakup/divorce.
✔️ You are highly motivated and want to see fast, transformative progress.
✔️ You are actively working through deep-rooted patterns, trauma, or strong limiting beliefs that require consistent processing.
✔️ You need structured accountability to make major life changes or develop new habits.
✔️ You feel like you need immediate coping strategies to navigate current challenges.Weekly sessions provide deep, steady momentum and are ideal for intensive support and rapid breakthroughs.
Every Other Week (Best for Moderate Symptoms or Clients Who Are “Coasting”)
You may benefit from biweekly sessions if:
✔️ You have moderate levels of anxiety, stress, or self-doubt that still affect your life but feel manageable.
✔️ You are making steady progress and no longer need intense weekly support.
✔️ You are not in crisis, but still working through personal growth, career transitions, or relationship challenges.
✔️ You need time between sessions to process insights, implement strategies, and integrate changes into your life.
✔️ You feel like you are "coasting"—not struggling, but not thriving either.Biweekly sessions allow for continued progress while giving you space to implement changes and reflect between appointments.
Once a Month (Best for Maintenance, Check-Ins, or Minimal Support Needed)
You may benefit from monthly sessions if:
✔️ You have already made significant progress and need only occasional guidance.
✔️ Your symptoms have improved, and you no longer feel stuck in any particular area.
✔️ You simply want a space for reflection, motivation, or occasional support as needed.
✔️ You are focused on fine-tuning habits, maintaining progress, or adjusting minor challenges.
✔️ You enjoy having a check-in for accountability without the need for frequent sessions.Monthly sessions are great for ongoing support, personal development, and maintaining the progress you've already made.
Finding the Right Frequency for You
If you're unsure which schedule is best for you, we can adjust your session frequency as needed. Therapy and life coaching are about meeting you where you are, so as you improve or face new challenges, we can increase or decrease session frequency accordingly.
💡 Reminder: Growth is a process, and there is no “right” or “wrong” speed! Whether you need frequent support or just occasional guidance, therapy and coaching are here to help you create the life you want—at the pace that works for you.

What Is Therapy?
Therapy (also called counseling or psychotherapy) is designed to help individuals work through emotional struggles, mental health challenges, past trauma, and patterns that may be affecting their well-being. 🔹 Therapy focuses on past and present concerns—it helps you heal, process, and recover. What Is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is focused on personal development, goal achievement, mindset shifts, and helping individuals create meaningful change in their lives. Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions but rather helps clients optimize their potential and take action toward their goals.
✔️ Ideal for:
✔️ Individuals who feel stuck, unmotivated, or unsure of their next steps
✔️ Clients wanting to build confidence, set boundaries, or improve relationships
✔️ Those working on career transitions, productivity, or personal growth

Yes! If you start therapy and feel ready to transition into a more action-oriented coaching approach, we can discuss the shift. Likewise, if you begin with coaching but find that deeper emotional work is needed, therapy may be the best next step.
✔️ Therapy is for healing, emotional processing, and mental health support.
✔️ Life coaching is for growth, motivation, and goal-setting.
✔️ If at any point we determine that a different approach would serve you better, I’ll help guide you in that transition. -
Yes! Therapy and life coaching can complement each other, depending on your needs. Some clients start with therapy to work through emotional challenges and later transition to life coaching for goal-setting and forward movement. Others find that a combination of both works best.
✔️ You might benefit from both if:
✔️ You are working through emotional healing while also wanting motivation and action-oriented support.
✔️ You are in therapy for mental health concerns but need coaching for career or personal growth goals.
✔️ You have made progress in therapy but want a structured plan to create lasting change.💡 Important Notes:
If you’re experiencing significant emotional distress, trauma, or mental health challenges, therapy should be your primary focus before adding coaching.
Life coaching is not a replacement for therapy but can be an excellent tool once you’re ready for forward movement.

✔️ Therapy: Insurance may cover therapy sessions, depending on your provider and plan. Therapy is only available to Virginia residents. I use Thrizer which helps clients access their OON benefits and works with almost every insurance in the state of Virginia. Copay is available after your deductible has been met.
❌ Life Coaching: Coaching is a private-pay service and cannot be covered by insurance. Many employers offer reimbursement for personal development training and coaching, so you may want to check with your employer about coaching reimbursement. Invoices can be provided upon request.💡 Many clients invest in life coaching because it provides personalized support, accountability, and guidance that isn’t covered by traditional healthcare plans. Many high-earning individuals can attest that life coaching also helps you level up your professional game and often leads to greater success in life overall.

The length of therapy or coaching depends on your unique goals, challenges, and progress.
✔️ Therapy tends to be more open-ended since emotional healing is a deeply personal process. Some people see results in a few months, while others prefer ongoing support for deeper healing.
✔️ Life coaching is typically goal-focused and may last anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on how quickly you progress toward your goals and what function life coaching serves for you. While some people want a life coach who is a trusted advisor and mentor, other clients want support tackling one or two goals at a time.
✔️ Keep in mind the frequency of sessions (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) also affects the timeline of progress.💡 Some clients prefer long-term support, while others achieve their desired changes in a shorter timeframe—it all depends on your needs!

Growth isn’t always linear, and sometimes, progress happens in ways you don’t immediately notice. Here are some key signs that therapy or life coaching is working for you:
✔️ In Therapy:
✅ You feel more self-aware and understand your emotions, triggers, and patterns better.
✅ Your coping strategies improve—you handle stress, anxiety, or difficult situations with more resilience.
✅ Your relationships improve because you communicate more effectively and set healthier boundaries.
✅ Your symptoms lessen (e.g., anxiety, depression, or self-doubt don’t feel as overwhelming).
✅ You have more self-compassion and treat yourself with greater kindness.✔️ In Life Coaching:
✅ You’re gaining clarity about your goals and values.
✅ You’re taking consistent action toward the changes you want to make.
✅ You feel more motivated, confident, and capable in your decisions.
✅ You’re developing habits and routines that support your personal or professional growth.
✅ You feel less stuck and more in control of your future.💡 Progress Looks Different for Everyone. Sometimes, progress means feeling more at peace. Other times, it’s taking bold action. In both therapy and coaching, we’ll regularly check in to celebrate wins, reassess goals, and make adjustments to ensure you’re moving in the right direction.
If you ever feel like you’re not making progress, we’ll discuss it openly and explore new strategies to keep you on track!
-
It’s completely natural to wonder, “What if this doesn’t help?” Investing your time, energy, and emotions into therapy or life coaching is a big step, and you want to be sure it’s worth it. While no approach is one-size-fits-all, here’s what to keep in mind if you’re questioning whether therapy or coaching will work for you.
✔️ Therapy and Coaching Are Collaborative Processes
Progress happens through consistency, openness, and a willingness to try new strategies.
If something isn’t working, we’ll adjust the approach to better fit your needs. Therapy and coaching are not rigid—they are tailored to you!
✔️ What to Do If You’re Not Seeing Progress:
✅ Communicate openly. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure, let’s talk about it. Your feedback helps us refine the process.
✅ Reevaluate your goals. Sometimes, expectations shift, and that’s okay. We can adjust your focus as needed.
✅ Give it time. Personal growth isn’t always immediate—small shifts can lead to bigger transformations over time.
✅ Try different techniques. If one approach doesn’t feel right, we can explore new tools, methods, or perspectives.
✅ Consider the fit. Therapy and coaching are personal, and the relationship with your provider matters. If you ever feel that our styles aren’t the right match, I fully support finding someone who aligns better with your needs.✔️ When Therapy or Coaching Might Not Be the Best Fit:
❌ If you’re not ready to engage in self-reflection or take action (and that’s okay—timing matters!).
❌ If you prefer a quick-fix solution rather than a process of growth and learning.
❌ If you need services outside my scope (for example, medical interventions, child/adolescent therapy, psychiatric care, or legal counseling).💡 You Are Not “Unfixable.” Sometimes, people worry that if therapy or coaching doesn’t work, it means they are beyond help. That is simply not true. Everyone is capable of change, healing, and growth—it just takes the right approach, support, and timing.
If you’re feeling discouraged, I encourage you to reach out. Whether we adjust the approach, set different goals, or explore other options, you are never alone in this journey. There is always a path forward! 💛

What Is the First Session Like?
Starting therapy or life coaching can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to wonder what to expect in your first session. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive space where you feel comfortable and heard from the very beginning.
✔️ Therapy First Session (For Virginia Residents Only):
We’ll start by discussing your reason for seeking therapy, current challenges, and any symptoms you’ve been experiencing.
I’ll ask questions to understand your background, experiences, and emotional patterns to tailor the approach to your needs.
If applicable, we’ll talk about treatment goals and how therapy can best support you.
This session is collaborative—you’re free to ask questions, share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and let me know what feels most important to you.
✔️ Life Coaching First Session (Available Globally):
We’ll focus on where you are now and where you want to go.
I’ll ask about your goals, challenges, and what success looks like for you.
We’ll explore what may be holding you back and start identifying actionable steps toward your desired outcome.
Unlike therapy, coaching is forward-focused and structured to help you take action toward positive change.
💡 No pressure, no judgment—just a space for clarity, reflection, and progress. Whether you’re starting therapy or coaching, the first session is about building trust, setting expectations, and creating a plan that works for you.
